Pop rockers find direction

POP rockers Masketta Fall are returning to their home town of Melton following the launch of their single So Contagious.

“We’ve got quite a fan base in Melton and it’s exciting to come back and play to some of the kids we know,” says lead guitarist Ben Downing.

Three of the five band members have ties to Melton and lead singer Bradden Ross attended Staughton College. The band have accidentally cashed in on the popularity of British boy-band One Direction.

“We did a cover of One Direction’s What Makes You Beautiful where we laughed the song out,” Downing says.

“An American station was interviewing [One Direction] and they showed them our YouTube laughing cover and they had a bit of a laugh. So far we’ve had just under a million views; it’s pretty massive,” says Downing.

The band, which includes Downing, Bradden, guitarist Daniel Molivas, bassist Ryan Spiller and drummer Jamie Ross, played at last year’s Djerriwarrh Festival and at Moomba this year.

Downing says the band is preparing for its EP launch in late August when it will be able to share more self-described pop rock tunes.

Fans can catch Masketta Fall performing this Friday at The FReeZa all-ages band night at Melton Youth Centre, 193 Barries Road, Melton. Doors open 7.30pm.

This is fully supervised, drug, alcohol and smoke-free event with no pass outs.
