Pushing for global peace

Rotary Caroline Springs is hosting a ceremony to officially unveil a new peace pole at the Caroline Springs Library next week, with five more poles set to be erected across the municipality.

Peace poles are monuments aimed at promoting peace and affirming Rotary’s objectives in supporting and advancing peace efforts.

A pole displays the message ‘May Peace Prevail on Earth’ in a selection of languages relevant to the host site.

Rotary Caroline Springs peace poles include the message in English, Punjabi, Arabic, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Hindi, Macedonian, and Maltese.

The Rotary has also hosted a peace writing competition with local schools Toolern Vale Primary, Deanside Primary, Rockbank Primary, Christ the Priest, and Burnside Primary, and the submissions are now being reviewed.

Rotary Caroline Springs president Ronald Moss said it has been wonderful to read the entries from the children, adding that many have given much thought to their belief of what peace means for themselves, their families, their schools and the community.

The official unveiling of the new peace pole at the Caroline Springs Library will be hosted from noon on Friday, June 13, and is set to be attended by Melton mayor Steve Abboushi, Kororoit MP Luba Grigorovitch, and Rotary district governor Michael Lapina.

A total of five more peace poles are set to be built across Melton – two in local schools, two at the library, and one in Aintree.

Local businesses who are interested in sponsoring a peace pole are encouraged to contact the organisation.
