Funding for financial counselling services

Not-for-profit community service organisations can now apply for funding to deliver increased financial counselling services to their local community, including in Melton and Moorabool.

It means Victorians facing financial hardship will have access to more financial counselling services.

The state government has spent almost $19 million on financial counselling since July 2023.

Consumer Affairs Minister Gabrielle Williams said the government would continue to focus on making sure those with rental or mortgage stress were supported.

“Having access to free financial counselling can be a lifeline when you are struggling to pay the bills, which is why we have provided record funding to support access to these services,” she said.

“We know people experiencing rental or mortgage stress need support, and this additional $15 million investment will help more Victorians connect with financial counselling services.”

Eligible organisations are encouraged to submit a proposal that will support people experiencing financial difficulties.

Expressions of interest are open until August 30 2024.

The funding is designed to address the high demand for financial counselling.

It aims to help people meet the 13 interest rate rises, increasing rents, and cost-of-living pressures.

Victorians can find their closest financial counselling provider by contacting the National Debt Helpline at ndh.org.au or calling 1800 007 007.
