The State Emergency Service (SES) received 21 requests for assistance in the Melton area during the weather event between 7am Sunday and 6am on Tuesday.

These included a flood rescue in Deanside.

Nine other flood related incidents, seven calls to building damage, three trees down and one assist other agency call.

In the Moorabool area SES were called to one tree down incident in Ballan.

As of 12.40pm on Tuesday, Mt Cottrell Road between Alfred Road and Iramoo Circuit, Thornhill Park and Paynes Road south of Beattys Road in Rockbank remain closed, along with Bradys Lane in Greendale.

An SES spokesperson said there have been 46 water rescues since the start of the weather event across the state.

“That’s 46 too many, if you attempt to drive through flood water you put yourself, your passengers and our volunteers at risk,” they said.

“Flood water is heavy and fast moving and can tear open the surface of the road underneath so even if you think you have enough clearance, you may not.

“Don’t take the risk, don’t attempt to drive into flood water. It could be the last decision you make.”

There are no longer warnings in place for Melton and Moorabool on the VicEmergency website, however the SES spokesperson said the weather event across the state is ongoing.

“The concern has shifted from flash flooding to riverine flooding in certain parts of the state,” they said.

“If you are visiting a part of the state you are unfamiliar with, set up a watch zone for your destination on the VicEmergency app to be notified of any warnings in the area you plan to visit.”
