A street in Diggers Rest has flooded, impacting six or seven houses, with the ground struggling to absorb the rain pelting down across the state.
Sunbury SES spokesperson Jarrod Bell said they have had 11 calls for help across ten different locations in Sunbury on Monday.
“A street with backs onto the Calder Freeway in Diggers Rest has flooded [and] six to seven houses have been impacted there,” he said.
“The ground can’t absorb more water… Anymore rain is going to cause additional runoff.”
Mr Bell said people should take the opportunity to prepare, including making sure pipes and gutters are clear.
“Flash flooding is when local drainage systems are overrun,” he said. “Across Victoria there’s been about 40 flood rescues in the last 24 hours.
“We’re hoping that the case and what it looks like is, that the rain is going to ease down… [with] drier conditions tomorrow.
“The ground is saturated already so we will need a decent period of dry weather… to avoid any more flash flooding.”
Mr Bell said it is a reminder to never drive through flood water.
