Some of the best speed boat racers in the country are set to descend on the Melton Reservoir for the Melton Gold Cup for three days of action this February.
The Melbourne Runabout and Speedboat Club will host one of the country’s major circuit boat races on February 3, 4, and 5.
Competitors can enter in events for around seven different classes of boats, from the junior to the unlimited level.
The three major races over the weekend are the Cavenar Trophy for six-litre boats, the Keith Harrison unlimited, and the coveted Melton Gold Cup.
Winners of the races will receive a trophy board and prize money of up to $6000.
Races will get underway between 5pm and 7pm on the Friday, 10am and 5pm on the Saturday, and 9am and 5pm on the Sunday.
Spectator tickets will be $20 per day that will grant them access to a special viewing area, there’ll be food trucks, and a portion of ticket proceeds will be donated to Beyond Blue Australia.
Melbourne Runabout and Speedboat Club vice commodore Chris Dynon said he’s “over the moon” about the event.
“I’ll hopefully be racing my own boat over the weekend, I’m pumped… It’s exciting to be able to represent and race at your own club,” he said.
“[Spectators] will absolutely be so impressed and excited, and become addicted to circuit boat racing. It’s one of the biggest kept secrets in motorsport, and if you come down and have a look you’ll be blown away at one of the country’s best venues.”
