Melton broke its hoodoo against East Point to enter the Queen’s Birthday bye weekend undefeated in the Ballarat Football League.
The Bloods had yet to beat the Kangaroos at Macpherson Park in Aaron Tymms’ time as coach, but it changed on Saturday.
The Bloods gained the ascendancy early on, with 10 scoring shots to nil in the first quarter to lead by 30 points at the first break.
The Kangaroos reduced the margin to seven points at half time, with the Bloods having a fight on their hands.
Nine goals to two in the third quarter opened up a match winning 51 point lead heading into the final quarter for the Bloods.
While the Kangaroos would win the final quarter, it wouldn’t be enough with the Bloods winning, 17.8 (110)-10.9 (69).
Ryan Carter kicked five goals for the Bloods, with Jack Walker named best on ground.
The win has the Bloods 12 points clear of second and third.
Melton South and Bacchus Marsh were left to pay for slow starts in their matches against Redan and North Ballarat respectively.
The Panthers kicked just three goals in the first three quarters, to trail by 45 points at the last break.
The game opened up in the last quarter with both teams kicking five goals each, as the Lions won 16.9 (105)-8.13 (61).
Riley Theo was the only multiple goal kicker for the Panther with two.
Rhys Lee and Cody Chapman were named their best.
The Panthers sit in ninth spot.
One spot ahead of them is Bacchus Marsh, who fell short against North Ballarat.
Neither side were able to score in the first quarter before a four goal to one second quarter opened a 20 point lead for City.
The margin increased in the third quarter. The Cobras kept City goal less in the last quarter, but it wasn’t enough, losing 8.11 (59)-4.8 (32).
It was all single goal kickers for the Cobras. Jake Owen was named their best.
