A local Moorabool sporting club has been hit with damaging vandalism in the lead up to their first home game of the season.
Darley Football Netball Club installed temporary portable buildings on Friday to accommodate players while their new sports and community pavilion is under construction, but on Sunday evening unknown vandals smashed all of their windows.
The Devils club president Mark Shelly said it was unclear if the vandalism of the hired portables would impact the club’s first home game against Bacchus Marsh on April 23.
“These temporary facilities were bought in so that season could get underway, we’ve actually got to find out now how long it’s going to take to get them repaired,
“We needed to bring these in and we’re actually paying to use them while our own rooms are being rebuilt, it’s really frustrating,” Mr Shelly said.
Mr Shelly said the total cost of hire and installation of the portable facilities for the season was $40,000 and now the club would need to spend more on the glass repairs.
“It’s really annoying, we’re a community based sporting club trying to provide community sport for all and this is what we’re effectively up against,” he said.
“We’d like the offenders to be caught up with and reprimanded or made aware of the inconvenience and how this has impacted a community club.”
Darley Football Netball Club is offering a $500 reward for anyone with information that leads to an offender being charged or reprimanded in relation to the damages.
