Nine roads and community infrastructure projects in Moorabool have been selected to receive a cash boost through a third round of grants from the federal government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program.
In May 2020, the federal government announced the $500 million LRCI program, which was then extended in the 2020-21 budget to include a further $1 billion in funding.
The objective of the LRCI program is to generate additional infrastructure in local communities across the country, and to support them in managing the economic impacts of the pandemic.
At a council meeting on December 1, the nomination of the nine projects was approved to be delivered to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development.
An amount of $2,563,406 has been allocated to the projects if approved by the department.
Many of the projects would be brought forward from their plans for future programs, including a splash park and playground at Mill Park in Ballan, which will have the most funds allocated at $760,000.
Another significant project includes a $400,000 contribution to the construction of the 1000+ steps in Bacchus Marsh.
Other projects include goal netting at Ballan Recreation Reserve, extension and resurfacing of tennis courts at Blackwood Reserve, and reserve upgrades at Gordon Public Park.
Road projects will include road rehabilitation on Elaine-Mount Mercer Road which has been the cause of safety concerns in the community, and Bungeeltap South Road.
