Purple rains down on new Weir View school

The construction of a new school in Weir Views is now in its final stages, with the school set to open early next year and its official uniform released this week.

Principal Bill Hill said revealing the uniform was an important milestone.

“Despite the interruptions this year our fantastic team of builders has the school nearly ready. They are just putting the finishing touches on now and we are putting plans [in] place to welcome our community to a picnic at the school before Christmas,” Mr Hill said.

“It will be a great chance for families to meet other families, their teachers and to have a look around the school buildings.

“We are also planning some prep orientation sessions and will notify families about these soon.”

Mr Hill said the uniform was inspired by the school logo which was designed to be bright and contemporary, reflecting the new school community.

The main purple colour represents creativity, wisdom and peace which will be “critical principles” in the culture of the school.

“We brought together ten families to provide input and advice through the uniform design process and I would like to thank them for their input because I think we’ve come up with something that the kids are going to be really proud to wear,” Mr Hill said.

The $6 million stage one construction of St Lawrence is ahead of schedule and on track to be completed by December 13.

Mr Hill said the school had been overwhelmed with enrolment enquiries and recently put on an additional class to cope with demand.

This has resulted in the school recently being given approval to proceed with stage two construction in March next year ahead of schedule, and set to finish in January 2023.

St Lawrence’s is located at 31 Waterway Boulevard in the Weir Views estate. It is part of the Parish of St Anthony of Padua, Melton South and will work closely with sister school, St Anthony’s Primary School.
