A local engineering student hopes to change the world after being awarded a special scholarship last week.
Caroline Springs’ Hanh Huynh is studying software engineering at RMIT, and last week was awarded one of the Westpac Foundations’ Young Technologists Scholarships, which are designed to support undergraduates who are passionate about technology and exploring ways it can be used for good.
She said the $15,000, plus access to special mentoring and networking programs would help her reach her goals.
“It not only gives me a lot of financial support to pursue this inside and outside of school, but it also gives me a supportive network that I can go to for help,” Ms Huynh said.
“It’s a great chance to learn as much as I can about the technology world and the possibilities within that. It’s a really exciting time to be in this field.”
Ms Huynh said she had wanted to make a difference in the world for many years, and with technology developing so quickly she was excited about what the future holds.
“I’m incredibly passionate about discovering new technologies,” she said.
“As we progress into the next decade we face many global challenges around sustainability and security and I believe technology innovation will be key to finding new ways of doing things.
“By pursuing a career in technology, particularly in machine learning, I hope to solve some of these problems and improve the lives of others.”
