Dawn services may have been cancelled this year, but that didn’t stop residents of Melton and Moorabool paying tribute.
Caroline Springs RSL president Andy Marshall said while the day looked different, it was far from cancelled.
“We just had to be inventive and do things a slightly different way,” he said.
“As the Last Post is played during the ANZAC Day Dawn Service we asked people to walk outside, stand in their yard, driveway, or balcony and observe a minute of silence in respect of our veterans,” Mr Murphy said.
“We all need to maintain that Anzac spirit in these trying times.”
Residents were also still able to lay flowers under the Caroline Springs war memorial, but strict social distancing measures were in place to ensure people didn’t congregate together.
The Caroline Springs Firstt Scout Group all took part in the service and spent the weeks leading up to Anzac Day trying to rally support.
The group conducted a letterbox drop and large social media push, encouraging all residents to walk to their yard with a candle at 6am.
The dawn service from the Shrine of Remembrance was also live-streamed for residents to watch from their homes.
Mr Murphy said a strong, safe community exemplified what the Anzacs stood for.
“Together we amplified our commitment to the ANZAC spirit. Lest We Forget.”
