The Good Friday Appeal will still receive a sizeable donation from the Bacchus Marsh community, despite roadside collections being cancelled.
The Bacchus Marsh Lions Club runs the appeal in the town every year, with more than $30,000 donated to the Royal Children’s Hospital in 2019, but with restrictions from the coronavirus pandemic limiting the ability of volunteers to collect it will be significantly lower this year.
Appeal chairman David Atterbury said they had already raised $10,000 throughout the past year, but without roadside collections the donations would take a hit.
“The welfare of the donors and the collectors, was of paramount importance in cancelling the traditional Good Friday roadside collection.” Mr Atterbury said.
“We do collect a significant amount of money throughout the year, but about 70 per cent of our donations each year come in that week up to Good Friday.
“We have all our cans out at the moment at stores around town, so we’d still ask people to donate at those if they can.”
Mr Atterbury also advised that there is an opportunity for the public to go on line to www.goodfridayappeal.com.au and donate directly. Good Friday Appeal raffle tickets are available for purchase at the same website for $10.
