Big boost for Bacchus’ SES

Bacchus Marsh State Emergency Service is better equipped to help locals in strife thanks to a $600,000 boost.

The funding, provided by insurance partner AAMI, has been used to buy tools and equipment to assist crews when dealing with storm-related damage such as removal of fallen trees and homes impacted by severe weather.

Bacchus Marsh SES volunteers responded to 145 calls for assistance in the past year with 71 of those related to storm damage.

Unit controller William Robson said that the funding has assisted volunteers to support the Bacchus Marsh community when storms hit.

“It’s really terrific to have AAMI backing our volunteers, so we can support the Bacchus Marsh community,” Mr Robson said. “Their valuable contribution and their support allows our volunteers to have access to the best training and equipment to support the Bacchus Marsh community before, during and after an emergency.”

He said that hydraulic rescue tools, power tools, generators and lighting have already been purchased.

Lachlan Rees, of AAMI, said the organisation was delighted to support VICSES and the Bacchus Marsh volunteers. “Their hard work and dedication to help the community before, during and after an emergency is critical,” Mr Rees said.
