The cast of Melton Christian College’s latest production is preparing for an uplifting experience.
Year 12 student Emily Summerfield will take the lead role in the school’s August production of Mary Poppins Jr, joined by 24 other cast members.
Drama teacher Derek Bendall said rehearsals began in February and fine-tuning has already begun.
“It’s all running quite smoothly,” he said. “As always, we want the students to make memories. When you think about your schooling years, you don’t remember your classes – you remember moments.
“If anything does go wrong, those are also memories that you can look back on and enjoy with friends.
“It’s been quite a lengthy rehearsal period and the students’ commitment to the production has been great.
“This is the 13th show for Melton Christian College and when the rights for
Mary Poppins Jr came out last year, I couldn’t pass it up.
“We’re trying new things with this show. Instead of painting the sets, we’re projecting background scenes on to the back wall … it will be more IT-based effects this year.”
Tickets are on sale now for the shows on August 1, 2 and 3.
