Bacchus Marsh Rotary Club is calling for “ambassadors” to join a new program aimed at encouraging people to get involved in community work.
The club launched its new Rotary Moorabool ambassador awards earlier this year to help develop local and international projects.
Chris Doughty and Tammy Bennett were awarded Moorabool ambassadorships last month and want others to join them in making a difference.
Ms Bennett, a mum and children’s author, said she was keen to do something in the community that aligned with her values. “I have so much love for the community that I live in,” she said.
Program participants have until February next year to raise at least $5000 towards three projects: a Bacchus Marsh Rotary community initiative yet to be decided, affiliating with Yen Luat village in North Vietnam to help its people provide infrastructure, and a charity within Moorabool shire of the participant’s choice.
Mr Doughty hopes to raise money through a production he’s created as an arts and drama teacher at Bacchus Marsh College.
Being an ambassador has changed his perspective of his role in the community.
“It’s a good learning opportunity to develop resources and knowledge in the area and share in the things that I love,” he said.
Rotary Moorabool president Narelle Laing-Pearson said she was excited by the opportunities the program created.
“The value of volunteers and the value of volunteering strengthens communities and generates personal reward,” she said.
