40 years ago

November 9, 1977

The first moves for the new court house for Werribee have taken place with the calling of tenders. Tenders for a brick and concrete building to be erected on the vacant block alongside the police station on the corner of Salisbury Street and Duncans Road have been called by the Public Works Department and these tenders will close on the 22nd of this month.

November 4, 1987

At least eight cars were stolen from around Werribee on Werribee Cup Day in a rampage which has left local police angered and a total value of the vehicles stolen exceeding $50,000. When the

Werribee Banner went to press, details of only four thefts were available.

November 5, 1997

Angry and worried parents have held two meetings with Wyndham City councillors to try and stop the closure of council’s three all-day childcare centres. At a sometimes hostile public meeting on Tuesday last week councillors and parents agreed to keep one or more of the three centres – Woodville, Mossfiel and Heathdale – open.

The Werribee Tigers have reversed a decision to go it alone in the VFL next year, instead signing a partial two-year AFL alignment deal with the Kangaroos last Friday. It is understood pressure from the AFL and Football Victoria to find the Kangaroos a home in the Victorian Football League was partly responsible for the decision.
