Pedestrian struck
A woman has died after she was struck by a truck in West Footscray on Monday night. The pedestrian was hit by a semi-trailer travelling west along Somerville Road, near the intersection of Lae Street, just before 10pm. She died at the scene.
Motorcyclist dies
A motorcyclist died after hitting a pole on Ballarat Road in Footscray on Friday afternoon. Police believe the man, aged in his 40s, lost control on tram tracks and struck a pole shortly before 4pm. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the man, but he died at the scene.
Couple treated at fire
Paramedics treated two people after a house fire in Altona on Friday morning. A man and woman both aged in their 20s were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to The Alfred hospital after emergency services were called to the fire about 5.50am. The woman was in a serious condition and the man in a stable condition.
Mission program awarded
Wesley Mission Victoria in Footscray’s Pathway to Employment program has won a Victorian Disability Award for assisting young people with an intellectual disability to transition from school into open employment.
