Melton South Primary School Cricket Club set on juniors

Melton South Primary School Cricket Club is hoping to field junior teams this season after struggling for numbers last year.

The club has previously run a successful program in the Melton Junior Cricket Association, but last season was the first time since 1992 that it failed to field a junior side.

Club president Paul Davies says they’re looking to field under-11 and under-13 teams this season and start rebuilding their junior program.

Davies says they’re looking for girls and boys wanting to play, with under-11s to play on Friday nights and under-13s on Saturday mornings. The matches will be at Melton Recreation Reserve.

He says the club is waiving registration costs for the junior sides this season to encourage more children to play.

Local businesses have got behind the push to restart the junior program, with club members also pledged to be out and about at Melton Amart Sports on August 27. On August 31, one dollar from every pizza sold after 5pm at Melton Domino’s will be donated to the club to help run the junior program.

The club will also hold an information session at Melton Recreation Reserve from 11am on September 3 for interested parents and players. It’s a big year for the club whose senior sides will play in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association this season. Details: 0418 535 211
