Cupido headlines Ballarat FL interleague squad

Bacchus Marsh’s Damian Cupido is the surprise selection in the Ballarat Football League interleague squad which will take on the Western Region Football League in the  AFL Victoria Community Championships on Saturday.

Cupido wasn’t named in the initial squad, as at the time he was coaching and playing with Essendon District Football League side, Airport West.

A move to Bacchus Marsh two weeks ago changed things, with the former Essendon and Brisbane Lions player, kicking 10 goals in each of his first two games with the Cobras..

Cupido is one three Cobras players selected in the team, along with Alec Del Papa and Jackson Bolton.

Reigning premiers Darley also have three players, Steve Kennedy, Mitch Banner and Luke Delahey, in the team.

Matthew Notman is the sole representative from Melton, while Melton South’s Ben Sortino has also been selected.

Sunbury Lions’ Grant Valles is the only Lions player in the final 23, with Josh Burgess one of the last players cut from the squad.

The side will take on an experienced WRFL side, but it will be without its three biggest names.

Former AFL players Brendan Fevola, Brian Lake and Mark Williams were in the initial squad, but none of them will pull on the boots on Saturday.
