Melton State Emergency Service crew members and volunteers were among thousands who donned something orange for Wear Orange Wednesday on May 11.

Events and festivities were held around Victoria as a show of appreciation to more than 40,000 SES volunteers across Australia.

SES crew member Karl Sass said volunteers had received expressions of thanks through social media, face-to-face encounters or letters for the dedication, quick thinking and professionalism invariably on show during what can be distressing and traumatic experiences.

“Every day, thousands of Australians are prepared to drop everything at a moment’s notice, put on orange overalls and respond to requests for assistance from their local community,” he said.

“Wearing orange at your workplace or school for just one day a year was a simple way of showing our SES volunteers that you appreciate their hard work and dedication to community safety.”

Community members can send a message of thanks on social media via the #thankyouSES hashtag.
