AFL Goldfields has released the salary cap figures for its four football leagues for the next three seasons. .
As previously reported by Star Weekly, AFL Victoria has approved a state wide player points system in 2016 and the introduction of player salary cap a year later to try and even out competitions and decrease spiralling costs.
While the salary cap will formally come into place in the 2017 season, all four AFL Goldfields leagues will trial parts of it next season.
AFL Goldfields, which oversees the Ballarat, Riddell District, Central Highlands and Maryborough Castlemaine District football leagues, has said there will be no penalties for breaking the salary cap next season.
The Ballarat league will have the highest salary cap of the four leagues, set at $150,000 for 2016 and will reduce by $10,000 for both 2017 and 2018.
The Riddell District league will have a salary cap of $120,000 in 2016, with $10,000 decreases the following two seasons.
The framework for the salary cap is still being finalised but is being drafted to ensure that the aspects used as part of pilot in 2016 will mirror the state-wide implementation in 2017.
An AFL Goldfields club sustainability advisory committee will be established to assess the salary caps and player point allocations for leagues across the AFL Goldfields region and to make recommendations to the AFL Goldfields Commission.
