RSPCA hunts for dog owners

RSPCA Victoria is appealing for information after an emaciated dog was found lying in a ditch by the side of the road in Manor Lakes on March 11.

A resident found the dog, wrapped in a brown blanket, across the road from a shopping centre on Ballan Road.

RSPCA Victoria inspector Sarah Gilbert said the female “bull Arab-type” dog was found barely alive and swarming with fleas.

The dog was taken to the U-Vet Werribee Animal Hospital, where she had to be euthanised.

The dog was not wearing a collar and was not microchipped.

RSPCA Victoria and Wyndham council have appealed for information to assist their investigation into the case of animal cruelty.

“Due to the lack of identification to assist us in our investigations, we’re urging anybody with information about this dog’s history or her background, to come forward and help us,” Inspector Gilbert said.

“RSPCA Victoria relies on the local community to assist in these cases. Even the smallest detail can help us to ascertain the truth as we work toward ending animal cruelty.”

It is an offence under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act to commit an act which results in unreasonable pain or suffering to an animal.

Anyone who is found guilty of such an act can face fines up to $40,297.50, or up to 12 months jail.

Anyone with information, or who has concerns for the welfare of an animal can call 9224 2222 or visit www.rspcavic.org
