MY PLACE

What’s your connection to Hobsons Bay?

My Scottish hubby and I moved here 10 years ago when he wanted to live near an Aussie beach and we fell in love with Williamstown. We’re both lucky to work in Hobsons Bay.

I work part time in the Children and Youth Team at Hobsons Bay Libraries and am the part-time administrator for Williamstown Church of Christ. Our beautiful kids go to school and kinder locally.

What do you like about Williamstown?

I like that it’s a true and caring community. I’m proud of Williamstown’s significant history. I love the parks, the beach and the library! I love that my family and I can walk around Williamstown to do everything we need rather than relying on a car.

What would you change?

A bit more respect for the magic of Williamstown and bit less overdevelopment.

What’s your favourite cafe/eatery and why?

I’m coeliac so I love Novel Kitchen for its gluten-free food.

Can you tell me about your role with Wriggle and Read and how do you remember everyone’s name?

I’m the presenter at Wriggle and Read at Newport library at 10.30am on Mondays. It’s an active literacy program for toddlers and their carers, which introduces pre-literacy skills. We sing, read stories, play with things like shakers and puppets and generally do a crazy amount of jumping around. It’s fantastic fun. It’s all about encouraging a love of learning and libraries early on in life.

I wish I could remember everyone’s names! I do the best I can, but we have over 100 people most weeks. We have our regular attendees who I get to know and love watching them grow and develop in confidence over the years.

What’s something people would be surprised to know about you?

I studied languages and performed in Indonesian and Auslan (Australian Sign Language) in Indonesia.
