Youth detention centre meeting

Community members are invited to attend an information session about the new youth detention centre on September 11 from 5.30pm at Lot 1 New Farm Road, Werribee (the Melbourne Water Treatment Plant). Attendees will be able to visit a range of information booths and speak to representatives, ask questions and seek information about the project. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Bookings or registrations are not required.

Toys and books garage sale

Little Buddies Toy Library is hosting a toys and books garage sale at Wyndham Park Community Centre, 57 Kookaburra Avenue, Werribee, on September 2 from 10am-2pm.

Get the music in you

Calling out for any folk musicians and dancers. Free folk sessions and traditional English Morris Dancing are run across different Werribee locations, two Sundays a month. All abilities welcome.

Community grocer

The Community Grocer, in collaboration with Wyndham council, has launched an affordable, fresh food market in Wyndham where shoppers can buy fresh fruit and vegetables for a fraction of the price at supermarkets. The next market will be held on August 31 from 3-6pm at the Youth Resource Centre, 86 Derrimut Road, Hoppers Crossing. Everyone is welcome. Bring your own bags to reduce plastic use.

Deakin University career night

Deakin University will be holding an information session at the Werribee Learning Centre, 9 Bridge Street, Werribee, on September 6 from 6-7.30pm. A panel with current students will discuss their pathways in changing careers. Registrations are preferred, but not necessary.

Film screening

Western Region Environment Centre, Werribee River Association, Point Cook Open Spaces, Shoestring Gardening and Transition Wyndham invite you to a free film screening of A Plastic Ocean on September 2 from 4-6pm at the Eco-Living Centre, 28 Ridge Drive, Wyndham Vale.

Parkrun

Wyndham Vale parkrun is a free weekly, five-kilometre timed run or walk for all ages and abilities. Meet at the Werribee Softball Pavilion in Presidents Park (McGrath Road, Gate 3) at 7.45am each Saturday for a short briefing. The run will start at 8am sharp. Parkrun is not a race – you can run, jog or walk at your own pace.
