Space for cars increases

Parking in Ballan is being disrupted as development of a 50-space car park begins in Steiglitz Street. After drains are laid, the council will seal the surface and build a concrete path to Inglis Street. Council chief executive Rob Croxford said: “We know both the population and visitor numbers are increasing so the extra parking will be very beneficial.”

Free kick for footy club

Darley Junior Football Club will start next season well prepared off the ground, after receiving a $4200 volunteers grant, allowing it to buy a new barbecue, gardening and computer equipment. Nine organisations have benefited from the latest round of federal grants. Bacchus Marsh Community Radio, Ballan and District Community House, Ballan Mechanics Institute, Blackwood Barrys Reef Landcare, Elaine and Greendale CFAs, Rowsley Landcare and the St Vincent de Paul Society’s Ballan conference shared $24,638.

Annual market’s 10th birthday

The 10th annual Greendale country market is on Saturday, November 24. Attractions include stalls, bric-a-brac, crafts, plants and entertainment. The market is at Egans Reserve from 8am-1pm. More details: 0407 978 123

Youth Week grants on offer

Young people in Moorabool have until December 7 to apply for a National Youth Week grant. Grants of up to $2000 will be available to help groups organise events during National Youth Week (April 5-14). More details: youthweek.com
