NERVOUS nineties was the only downside of a strong Darley batting display on Saturday as the home team posted 4-305 on day one of its Ballarat Cricket Association clash against North Ballarat.
Just a week after posting 8-70 against Wendouree, Darley bats found form to command the first 80 overs.
Tim Hughes (93) and captain Matt Cape (96) top-scored but came undone within reach of triple figures.
Matthew Frew (34 no) and Brian Wheelahan (23) ended the innings to give Darley’s bowlers plenty to defend on day two this Saturday.
In Division 1, Ballan’s Craig Tooze hit 52 from No.7 to ensure the home team batted out the day against Burrumbeet. Cameron Dunne had earlier scored 49, but his dismissal at 6-113 left Ballan in danger of failing to bat out its overs.
But Tooze and Michael Snaith (28) put on 41 for the seventh wicket before Tooze batted with the tail, last man out with the score on 199 after 79 overs.
