POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal collision involving two cars in Balliang East on Tuesday morning.
The accident, which occurred shortly before midday, forced the closure of the Bacchus Marsh-Geelong Road in both directions.
Investigators believe a Holden Commodore sedan was headed north along the Bacchus Marsh-Geelong Road at about 11.50am when the driver lost control of the vehicle, colliding with a south-bound 4WD towing a boat.
The driver of the 4WD, believed to be a man in his 50s, and a rear passenger, believed to be a girl in her teens, died at the scene.
Another passenger from the 4WD, a woman in her 50s, was taken to hospital.
The occupants of the Commodore, a 43-year-old Breakwater man and a 26-year-old Breakwater woman, were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries and continue to assist police with their enquiries.
The remaining occupant of the wagon, a 52-year-old Brookfield woman, was taken to the Geelong Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
