Residents unite – before the elections!

An AGM I attended recently burst into questions unrelated to the topic of the guest speaker. One person wanted to talk about road congestion, and another said that demolishing the old library was an act of vandalism. This told me that residents don’t have a forum in which to express their concerns, and as a long time advocate for a Residents’ Association in Bacchus Marsh, I suggested to John and Tonia Dudzik (both candidates in upcoming elections) that we establish an association.

You can imagine my surprised when I saw the article “Mix of voices way to cut angst” (Moorabool Weekly, September 4, page 3.) Whilst we all agreed that an association was needed it was left to me to start the process because John and Tonia felt it wasn’t a priority for them before the elections but that they would support me if they could. Now whilst I don’t really care that John ‘stole my thunder’ I do care that he only promoted his preference for separate associations for Darley, Maddingley and Bacchus Marsh.

My preference was for one association for all of Moorabool with representatives from each of the towns within the shire. Now that the ‘horse has bolted’ residents of Moorabool Shire are invited to log into the new Bacchus Marsh Residents Association Facebook page (it’s very new so please be patient) and share your thoughts about whether an association is needed, and whether you prefer one umbrella association or several smaller associations. Also, let us know your thoughts about an internet-based association.
