CFA to look into outdated regos

THE CFA will conduct a review after the registrations of a Melton tanker and two trucks at the Fiskville training centre were found to have lapsed.

A CFA spokesman said the Fiskville trucks were used solely for training purposes and the Melton tanker was replaced with a vehicle from Geelong.

Across the state, the registrations of 22 CFA vehicles had lapsed.

“The vehicles are in the process of being reregistered and are expected to return to service shortly,” the spokesman said.

“Two vehicles have been returned to service, with a further eight due back tomorrow, and the remainder next week.”

Opposition emergency services spokesman James Merlino claimed some fire stations would be without trucks because of the oversight.

“This will come as little consolation for communities like Fiskville that will have trucks offline while the paperwork is sorted out.”

Police and Emergency Services Minister Peter Ryan said the CFA had assured the government it was able to maintain services until all trucks were reregistered and fully operational.

“The CFA has indicated this will be thoroughly investigated and systems put in place to ensure it does not happen again.”

Melton CFA officer in charge James Dullard said the lapse had not disrupted services.

“It did not impact on our service delivery to a great extent,” he said. “We had other appliances to compensate and a temporary procedure to bring in other appliances if we needed it.”

Mr Dullard said the truck should be back on the road by today.
