BFL: Tiring Panthers can’t tame experienced Redan

SIX final-quarter goals have seen Redan home against Melton South in a scrappy affair at City Oval on Saturday.

With the sides neck and neck for the majority of the contest, it took the experienced Redan heads of Jarrod Edwards, Damian Horbury and Ryan Waight to turn the game in favour in the Lions, who won 12.9 (81) to the Panthers’ 5.10 (40).

Marc Dransman controlled the ruck for the visitors and also went forward to kick an important goal in the second quarter, keeping Melton South within three points at the main break.

The final term was where the game was won for Redan, as the class and skill of the reigning premier proved too much for the Panthers, who appeared to run out of legs.

Melton South coach Shane Geddes touched upon the fatigue aspect after the game.

“For three quarters we were in the game. They got away from us in the last quarter where they showed a bit of polish and we were a bit fatigued,” he said.

“Their good players also played well. I thought we could have maybe got a bit closer but it was under two goals at three-quarter time so it wasn’t all that bad in the end.”
