BACCHUS Marsh Aerodrome is making a pitch for state government funding to improve its operations and create jobs.
Aerodrome management chairman Roger Druce said funds would be spent on improving runways, taxiways, fencing and access roads.
The government has made $20million available through a regional aviation fund for development of public-use regional airports.
“We are receiving healthy interest from airports across the state, with several applications lodged already,” Aviation Industry Minister Gordon Rich-Phillips said.
Applications can be made to build or upgrade runways, taxiways and aircraft parking areas or for important work such as fencing, lighting and drainage.
Moorabool mayor Pat Griffin and East Moorabool ward’s Cr Allan Comrie met Mr Rich-Phillips at the aerodrome on July 28.
“We’ll be working with the committee of management to try and come up with some projects,” Cr Griffin said. The council owns the airfield, but it’s operated by Bacchus Marsh Aerodrome Management, comprising representatives of the council, gliding clubs and flying schools.
