MELTON family historians Max Cleal and Aileen Smith say that through their research they have uncovered many family truths.
Not only have they uncovered the general history of their relatives, they’ve also answered many a question regarding genetic traits and other matters relating to their own personal health.
“You get to know much, much more about yourself when researching your family,” Mr Cleal says.
The pair met through Melton Family History Group more than 10 years ago and have been teaching beginner courses in genealogy ever since.
As part of National Family History Week, which finishes Saturday, Ms Smith and Mr Cleal have prepared a photo exhibition at the Melton Visitor Information Centre.
“I’ve inherited lots of family photos,” Ms Smith says.
“My dad was also a historian and in 1976 was featured on This is Your Life.”
“That’s where Aileen gets her penchant for research as well as being a teacher librarian,” Mr Cleal adds.
Mr Cleal encourages residents to visit the exhibition and possibly learn more about their own ancestry.
The exhibition is until August 20, at the information centre in High Street.
Mr Cleal and Ms Smith will hold a floor talk at 11.30am on August 15.
The pair are also available to help with free family history research at Melton library at Victoria University on the first and third Wednesdays each month. Details: 97478027
