FORMER Romsey resident and Melton Pistol Club shooter Daniel Repacholi missed the final of the 50m air pistol by just three points on Sunday.
Repacholi, 30, finished 19th of 38 competitors in the men’s 50m pistol at the Royal Artillery Barracks.
But the finishing position failed to explain just how close Repacholi was to the final. He fell just three points short of seventh place.
The former Melton Pistol Club member, now based in NSW, was two points shy of a shoot-off to make the final after six other competitors tied for eighth place.
Repacholi shot 557 points with eight inner-10s in qualifying, while the six shooters in eighth were on 559.
Italian Giuseppe Giordano won his way through the shoot-off, while South Korea’s Young Rae Choi was the top scorer in qualifying with 569 points. Choi was then bumped to silver by countryman Jongoh Jin in the final, while China’s Zhiwei Wang took bronze.
Earlier in the week, Repacholi finished 28th in the men’s 10m air pistol.
Repacholi’s qualifying score of 575 with 12 inner-10s was eight points off the qualifying score for the final, 583 from Portugal’s Joao Costa. Jongoh Jin won gold from Italian Luca Tesconi and Serbia’s Andrija Zlatic.
