RDFL: Melton Central cruises to 104-point win over goalless Rockbank

MELTON Central kept Rockbank goalless in the first half as the Blues romped to a percentage-boosting 104-point win in Riddell District Football League at the weekend.

Rockbank may have won the first Melton derby of the season, but the return match was a slaughter at MacPherson Park as the Blues won 20.15 (135) to 4.7 (31).

Even with the percentage boost, Melton Central remains outside the top six with its six-win, one-draw, six-loss record the same as Macedon, but with a considerable gulf between the Cats’ percentage (124.23) and Blues (99), while Wallan (8-5) is a game-and-a-half ahead of both in fifth.

Rockbank was goalless at half-time and kicked just one major to three-quarter-time as Melton booted five unanswered in the first, six more unanswered in the second and six more in the third to lead by 100 points at the last change.

Rockbank matched Melton Central goal for goal in the final term to prevent the game blowing out further.

Adam Fenton booted four for the Blues, while Paul Henderson and Matthew O’Brien booted three each.

Matthew Edwards was Rockbank’s only multiple goal-kicker.

The Rams sank to 10th on the ladder with the percentage hit, and are one of four teams tied from eighth to 11th on three wins and 10 losses.

Elsewhere, Broadford did Melton Central and Macedon a favour by belting Wallan in an 85-point surprise.

Diggers Rest maintained its one-game gap on the top of the table with a comfortable 63-point win against Kilmore, while Romsey shook Lancefield’s first-half challenge to win by 29 and Macedon led start to finish to beat Woodend Hesket by 26.

In netball, Melton Central kept top spot on the A grade ladder with a 77-21 win against Rockbank.

The 10-1 Blues lead Macedon on percentage only, with the latter having a game in hand.

Romsey (9-2) is third after the Lancefield bye.

Diggers Rest moved to within a game of the top six with a 43-16 win against Kilmore, while in other results Macedon 74 defeated Woodend Hesket 28 and Broadford 43 defeated Wallan 42.
