TAC Cup: Finals still in the frame for Jets

WESTERN Jets overcame a slow start to pip Murray Bushrangers by two points on Saturday, claiming a win that keeps the Jets’ TAC Cup finals hopes alive.

The 8.14 (62) to 9.6 (60) victory at Burbank Oval took the Jets to five wins and seven losses, and to ninth on the TAC Cup ladder, one game behind the Calder Cannons (6, 6-6), Dandenong Stingrays and Geelong Falcons.

Murray kicked four goals to one in the first quarter but the Jets rallied to lead by a point at the long break.

The Jets play Gippsland Power (2, 10-2) at Morwell on Saturday.

The under-16 national carnival started in western Sydney on Saturday with Vic Metro beating Vic Country by a point in the opening game of the series at Blacktown International Sports Park.

Maribyrnong Park’s Touk Miller and Romsey’s Jake Lever were among the best as Vic Metro won 11.11 (77) to 11.10 (76).

Bacchus Marsh duo Dillon Viojo-Rainbow and Liam Duggan are in the under-16 Vic Metro squad along with Darley’s Billy Myers and Gisborne pair Matthew Goodyear and Jack James.

Vic Metro plays WA today and South Australia on Friday.
