DEMOLITION crews yesterday began tearing down the old Bacchus Marsh library.
In what came as a shock to some residents, demolition began on the 44-year-old building just after midday.
The future of the building has been a hot topic in recent months, with many community groups calling for it to be saved. Moorabool Council has not indicated what it will do with the site.
Resident Tonia Dudzik questioned why people were not told exactly when the building was going to be destroyed.
“I would have chained myself to the building if I had known,” she said.
Mayor Pat Griffin said a decision on the future of the site would be made by the incoming council when elections are held in October.
“Council won’t be announcing anything until after the elections,” he said. “We don’t want to see the library become a political football.”
