Moorabool households less wasteful

The average Moorabool household produces almost 200kilograms less waste each year than the typical Victorian home.

Sustainability Victoria data shows Moorabool residents produce an average of 290kilograms of waste a year, making it the most efficient council in the state.

Victorian households generate an average of 475kilograms a year. A spokesman said Moorabool’s impressive rates could be connected to proper bin use.

“We don’t really know what the secret is … what we do know is that [Moorabool residents] use the best-practice recyclables bin system: a 240-litre co-mingled fortnightly collection and a small 120-litre weekly garbage service which produces the best combination of bin systems to improve diversion rates.”
