ROMSEY has ended Diggers Rest’s unbeaten run in the Riddell District Football League.
The top-of-the-table clash was set to be the match of the round and it didn’t disappoint for the first three quarters.
But that was where the contest ended with the Redbacks kicking six goals to none in the final term to run out 55-point winners, 15.14 (104) to 7.7 (49).

Redbacks coach Mark Pederson was pleased with how his team had finished.
“It was a team effort and we put it all together in the final term. We started well [kicking five goals in the opening term] before we went to sleep in the second term.
“We knew they would come back at us as they are a good side.”
Pederson said that he spoke to his players at half-time about failing to stick to the game plan.
“We went a bit defensive and got behind the ball.
“We’re an attacking side and they are [the Burras] a more defensive side and we were playing to that style.
“We needed to sort that out and we did.”
He said the backline was the key to the Redbacks’ victory.
Pederson praised the performances of Brendan Cunningham and 16-year-old Angus Storey in the ruck.
“Brendan has taken everything before him this year after playing reserves last year.
“With Angus, we wanted him to give us a contest and he did that.
“He really took them on at ground level and is really courageous.”
Burras coach Jamie Elliott said his side was in the contest for three quarters.
“When they got the ball and were able to run forward they were hard to stop.
“They were defensively better and they got on top in the final term.
“Once they get the footy they are hard to stop and they won the stoppages.”
Elliott said he thought the Burras were still a chance at three-quarter-time.
“There were a couple of decisions which cost us early in the last term which gave them cheap goals.”
He said Jeff Heritage was the best for his side.
The Burras will go back to basics this week.
They play Rockbank, while the Redbacks take on Macedon.
