No seatbelts for wildlife

Melton motorists are being urged to keep to speed limits when driving through areas with large wildlife populations.

They include Eynesbury’s grey box forest.

Local Wildlife Victoria volunteer Rebecca Palonek (pictured) says better behaviour by drivers will mean fewer animals being killed and injured by cars.

Wildlife Victoria says anyone who finds an injured animal should consider taking it to a nearby vet for assessment.

It says people should use a towel or blanket to cover the animal, pick it up gently and firmly, and place it in a well-ventilated box for transport.

To arrange emergency care for an injured, sick or orphaned native animal, phone 1300 094 535.
