Melton West fire causes $300,000 damage

INVESTIGATIONS continue into an early morning house fire on Tuesday in Melton West which caused more than $300,000 damage.

Acting Sergeant Mick Downes from Melton police said the blaze, which took hold in the kitchen and garage, was believed to be suspicious.

Fire crews were called to the Westlake Drive property just after midnight this morning and took about 30 minutes to bring it under control.

The residents inside the house were alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm.

Melton CFA’s Paul Hopkins said it was a timely reminder about the importance of working smoke alarms.
