Geelong-Ballarat rail line savoures 150 year track record

IT pulled away from the platform as gracefully as a ship leaving the dock, but within minutes last week’s special passenger train from Geelong to Ballarat was rattling along.

Despite being 150 years old, the Geelong-Ballarat railway line was young again last Tuesday as anniversary celebrations brought it back to life. The ‘special heritage service’

departed Geelong at 10.30am and stopped at Lethbridge, Lal Lal and Ballarat before returning around 1pm.

The state government is completing a $2million feasibility study into the return of passenger services.
