BRIGHT collection tins will be rattled down Main Street in Bacchus Marsh on Friday to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.
Moorabool residents are typically generous over the Easter holidays.
Last year the Bacchus Marsh Lions Club and more than 50 volunteers raised more than $20,000.
Last week, Bacchus Marsh Grammar School students collected $3500 on Main Street over two days.
Lions member and collection organiser Ben Noble urged residents to spend a few hours shaking tins this Friday.
“There’s plenty of money to be made out there, as the kids showed us,” he said.
The annual appeal is a cause close to Mr Noble’s heart. His granddaughter was treated for a brain tumour by the hospital’s doctors over seven years. Now 16, she is in remission.
“She has to have regular MRIs (magnetic resonance imaging), but she is going very well. The staff, especially the nurses, have been wonderful,” Mr Noble said.
His son, now 50, was also treated at the children’s hospital for a burst appendix.
“A number of our volunteers who turn up on Good Friday have had children treated for serious illnesses. A lot of other people have friends’ kids there and some just want to help and get motivated on the day,” Mr Noble said.
The collection hub is at Bacchus Marsh fire station. It will be manned from 9am-4pm. To volunteer, call 0409885700
