A MELTON sex offender who allegedly breached his home detention and was on the run for four days before being arrested in Queensland has appeared in court.
Terrence O’Hara, 58, appeared briefly before County Court Judge Sue Pullen last Thursday.
He was charged with breaching a supervision order that he reside at a particular address and comply with a curfew and electronic monitoring.
He was placed under supervision last July.
Barrister David Sexton, representing the secretary of the Justice Department, told the court O’Hara would also face two new charges of leaving Victoria without permission and breaching a ban on drug usage.
O’Hara’s name had been suppressed because he was a convicted sex offender living in the community, but Judge Pullen lifted the non-publication order.
Defence lawyer Sandra Gaunt said O’Hara would not apply for bail.
O’Hara was remanded in custody to appear on April 20 for a hearing.
He had disappeared on March 16 after leaving his Melton home when under a court-ordered curfew banning him from being away from home after 11pm.
He was arrested near Ingham, in north Queensland, on March 19 after driving more than 2500kilometres.
