Gabby Byrnes a bronzed star

BACCHUS Marsh Little Athletics competitor Gabby Byrnes flew the flag for the club with two medals at the Athletics Australia junior championships in Sydney last week.

She won bronze in the women’s under-14 discus with 29.84m, the best-placed Victorian in the field behind the winning throw of 32.82m.

Byrnes was also the top Victorian as she won bronze in the under-14 javelin, throwing 30.65m with the winning mark 39.11m.

Former centre captain Mitchell Thompson won bronze in the men’s under 18 3000m steeplechase (6:12.04), while former competitor Nicholas Milton won the under 16 men’s 100m (13.38) and 200m (26.32).

Centre records to fall recently include Breeanna Horan (under-15 girls javelin) who threw 14.66m and Ryan Shaw (under-14 boys high jump) who jumped 1.80m.

Bacchus Marsh will send a representative squad to the Victorian Little Athletics state championships in Bendigo this weekend.

Under-9: Daniel Lalor (discus, shot put, 60m hurdles, 80m hurdles), Kayla Downes (discus, shot put), Justin Runge (discus, triple jump, long jump), Lara Casey (60m hurdles), Olivia Way (70m, 80m hurdles).

Under-10: Bryce Stephenson (long jump, 400m, 80m hurdles, high jump), Indya Forde (70m, 100m, triple jump, long jump), Jack Parente (shot put).

Under-11: Coolum Linane (high jump, discus, javelin), James Dickson (long jump), Hayley Whitehand (javelin, discus, shot put), Connor Shugg (discus, javelin), Evan Shaw (high jump), Emily Harbison (60m hurdles, 80m hurdles, shot put).

Under-12: Andrew Amor (1500m, 800m), Dominic Miesen (1500m, 800m), Mason Dickson (discus, javelin), Sharni Bullard (high jump), Ruby Simioni (high jump).

Under-13: Gabby Byrnes (javelin, shot put, discus), Lucas Shugg (1500m, javelin, shot put), Hayden Thompson (javelin), Khyle Forde (long jump, triple jump), Matt Horan (long jump).

Under-14: Ryan Shaw (high jump, javelin, long jump), Jack Shaw (300m hurdles, 200m, 400m), Jack Byrnes (discus, javelin, shot put), Brant Lopes (long jump), Jade Wilson (discus, shot put), Olivia O’Brien (shot put).

Under-15: Zac Miesen (300m hurdles, discus, javelin, shot put), Hamish Coulton (800m, 1500m, 400m).
