Halletts Way southern extension waits for seal of approval

Work on the southern extension of Halletts Way awaits the green light as Moorabool council ties up loose ends.

Design work is almost finished, money is allocated in the draft budget and the council wants the tender ready by spring.

Infrastructure general manager Phil Jeffrey said the $4.5 million allocated to the extension comprises money from the 2015-16 draft budget (which is awaiting approval), plus developer contributions, a $2.18 million federal government grant and funds already secured from a state government grant. Further funds will be needed from the council’s 2016-17 budget.

The $1.5 million northern extension of Halletts Way, which will link Ramsay Crescent and Links Road at Darley, broke ground earlier this year. It is due to be open by September, if winter construction goes well.

“This is one of the biggest infrastructure projects undertaken by Moorabool council and, once completed, will be a vital asset to Bacchus Marsh,” Mr Jeffrey said.

“The road and bridge design is 80 per cent complete … and it is on track to be completed by the end of this financial year.

“If the funding in the draft council budget is approved … we would be looking to tender the project in the spring months, with construction to start at the beginning of 2016.”

The southern extension of Halletts Way is expected to help ease congestion and ultimately create a western link at Bacchus Marsh from Griffith Street to Links Road.

“We have an alignment for this important piece of infrastructure in place now and have produced drawings and artist’s impressions to help visualise the completed project,” Mr Jeffrey said.
