Melvin Monleh comes to life on the running track.
As the wind blows against his face and his feet hit the ground, a wave of determination and invincibility passes through the 13-year-old. The track is where he belongs …
Melvin hopes to be the next Usain Bolt. He already has a few gold medals to his name, taking out first place in 200- and 400-metre races and the long jump at the past two Little Athletics Australia nationals competitions.
And he’ll be heading to America next year to compete against international counterparts. Ultimately, the goal is to represent Australia at Olympic level.
“Running is a very important part of my life,” Melvin says. “It just makes me feel good; running makes me feel alive.”
But Melvin needs sponsors to help him reach his goals.
“If I don’t have a sponsor it will make it hard for me to attend competitions. My mum pays for everything and she has three other kids to look after,” Melvin says.
Mum Diana said the family would really appreciate extra help.
“We’ll make the sponsors proud; that’s our promise.”
