Vintage lore a perfect fit for Rockbank’s Miss Perfect contestant

From Monday to Friday, Alexandra Brand is a dedicated lawyer.

But come the weekend, her love of vintage cars and 1950s fashion takes over.

This year the self-confessed ‘vintage tragic’ from Rockbank has entered Miss Pin-up Australia, a competition showcasing fashions from the 1940s and 1950s.

Ms Brand, aka Miss Cleopatra Portman, will enter the Miss Perfect category, which means everything has to be true vintage.

“The last few years, I’ve been dressing up in vintage wear when I go to car shows, so I thought, why not enter the biggest pin-up competition in Australia?,” she said.

She has been busily preparing her outfits – from accessories right down to shoes – for three catwalk categories – lingerie, swimwear and day-wear.

“It’s so fun,” she said. “Trying to find these things, it’s like being a child in a candy shop. I just love the outfits … I cant wait to show them off.

“As a solicitor you’re actually meant to be personality-less,” she said.

“That’s what I love about weekends – dressing up, doing my hair and make-up the way I want.”

Ms Brand will contest the state finals in June, national finals will be in Sydney later this year.
