Carrie Bickmore speech inspires Melton South beanie kids

Melton South Primary School pupils donned their beanies this week to support the fight against brain cancer.

A few of the older pupils were inspired to join the campaign following a speech by gold Logie winner Carrie Bickmore.

According to grade 5 teacher Michael Crowe, the students were “pretty moved” by her televised Logies speech and so wore beanies to school and encouraged others to follow suit.

Following the student-driven move, the junior school council will host an official fundraising day in July during Beanies for Brain Cancer Awareness Week.

Mr Crowe said the pupils were already involved in fundraising events and awareness campaigns throughout the year and were eager to support this one.

“We’re proud that they are looking beyond themselves,” he said.
