Melton’s only DrillDance club is placing the city on the dance landscape with back-to-back championship wins.
The club’s teams returned from the Australian DrillDance championships in Bendigo last weekend with more success.
The senior team, Electrikaires, reclaimed the title of Australian thematic dance champions and scored second place for its thematic drill routine.
The under-17s team, Electrik Force, also scored a second-placing in the technical drill leg of the championships.
Senior coach Billie Harrip said she was “stoked” with the club’s wins and said they were a testament to the members’ dedication and teamwork.
DrillDance teams perform fun and challenging routines in categories such as dance, prop and drill-team. Teams choose their own costumes, routines and music for performances.
Ms Harrip, a coach of about 20 years, said it was the sport’s uniqueness and beautiful costumes that initially attracted her.
The club has 27 students, including one of only four males competing in Victoria. Ms Harrip says the club is now recruiting for under-eight-year-olds and masters (over 30).
